OUR COUNTERTOP SHOP HAS A NEW HOME! EXPANSION AT ITS FINEST

A new year marks a new chapter for our countertop manufacturing department, as it finally moves into a new permanent home. Since its inception, this will be the department’s fourth — and hopefully final — relocation! Back in 2008, Ramsey Construction, one of our builders, decided to exit the countertop business to focus on building houses. Up until that point, we had outsourced countertop jobs, but this presented an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. We leased Ramsey’s old shop on State Street, and the FBS Countertop Shop was born. A few years later, we relocated to the north end of the Boise Door Shop. After spending a couple of years there, the door shop needed to expand and reorganize, prompting another move in 2014. This time, it was a short hop across the building to the south end of the Door Shop. During this period, we made our first major investment in the shop: a 5-Axis CNC Saw.

By late 2021, with another door shop expansion on the horizon, the countertop shop once again needed to move. Fortune smiled upon us once again when an FBS employee stumbled upon a building in Garden City that was once the home of Hardrock Fireplace and Granite. It was small but had everything we needed, and we signed the lease within days. The downside to the location was that it was far removed from the heartbeat of the Franklin team. In 2021, plans were underway to build a new truss plant in Caldwell. In July of 2023, we completed construction and vacated the old truss plant on the Boise campus. This freed up the space to consider expanding our countertop shop, upgrading some equipment, and planning for future upgrades. Late in 2023, we started working on the project in two phases. The first phase was to build a new breakroom and make much-needed bathroom facilities available to the countertop shop, the cabinet shop, and all yard employees. Fast forward to January 2025, and the countertop shop has officially moved into its new home. While a few contractors are still finishing up, the team is back in full production. The new shop, which now totals 15,000 square feet, has two significant equipment upgrades. The first is a state-of-the-art edge polisher. This addition will significantly boost our capacity while improving safety by reducing the amount of manual hand polishing required. Less hand polishing means less strain on our employees, leading to fewer injuries and increased productivity. The second is a state-of-the-art water filtration system. Unlike older systems in which water enters the system, filters out all the sediment, and goes down the drain, this wholly closed-loop system recycles 100% of the water. And what little water goes down the drain is almost 100% pure. This saves money and is more environmentally friendly. And we are not finished envisioning the future. Plans for the space include future equipment that will allow us to expand our capacity even further.

Wow From: Sierra Baker and Joe Ullom, Twin Falls To: Bryan Stuart, Twin Falls Bryan always goes above and beyond to help customers, whether it’s starting to pull material before the customer gets out there, waiting for customers at the counter so they aren’t lost trying to find someone in the yard, or simply holding the door open for someone. Bryan has also made two locations around the yard to store return slips so we do not waste time walking to get one. This improves our time management and our customer experience. We recently had a miscommunication on a delivery date with a builder. Ben took it upon himself to come in at 5 a.m. to make sure the delivery was made and the job stayed on schedule! Ben is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure our customers are taken care of. Safe From: Anthony Henry, McCall To: Aaron Davis, McCall

Shout out to Aaron Davis from the yard, who wanted to keep busy on a slow Friday afternoon by keeping snow cleared off the 2x rows. On top of that, he took a blower to the employee parking and blew the snow off everyone’s vehicle right before closing time! He made the customer experience safer and going home easier! Guide

amazing efforts of the Franklin truss team over the past several months. Since it is a manufactured product that we sell, it makes trusses one of the tougher products to manage production, capacity, and schedule-wise. It hasn’t been easy times, but Chuy and his team have been up to the task and continually strive to be better every day. They work hard to make it easier for the customer and continue to put out one of the best trusses in the valley accompanied by amazing service in the field led by Kyle Klemm. I am proud to sell FBS trusses and that’s due to Chuy and all the way down to each member of his team! Nice work striving to be the best! At the heart of this team is a dedicated department manager, Melissa Gray. With her extensive experience in sales, design, and countertop manufacturing, Melissa is an invaluable leader committed to helping her team succeed. She fosters accountability, inspires the team to produce a product that exceeds customer expectations, and makes every FBS employee-owner proud. The new shop was thoughtfully designed with the team in mind, and moving in has instilled a renewed sense of belonging and purpose. Reaching this point has been a long journey, but the team’s resilience and determination have paid off. With their sights firmly set on the future, they are ready to tackle whatever challenges lie ahead. Over the last several years, Franklin has developed a new truss plant, expanded our door shop, made significant upgrades to the cabinet shop, and finally, our new countertop shop. These are substantial investments in our manufacturing capabilities and position us for growth, collaborative teamwork, and improvement in safety and productivity. It’s been a lot of work by a lot of people, and rest assured, it won’t be long until we start the next chapter in our growth and continuous improvement.

From: Jessica Vineyard, Caldwell To: Chrissy Larimore, TVID Exterior

Prior to the start of a recent ESOP event in Caldwell, Chrissy with the TVID-Ext team saw me struggling with a small but fundamental aspect of the event. Her knowledge and experience far surpassed my own in that realm. She dropped everything she was doing and stepped

Over the past 17 years, the department has faced its share of challenges, from multiple relocations to working with older equipment. But through it all, the team has shown remarkable resilience. Over the past year, we’ve focused on building a strong core team to achieve our 2026 Vision and beyond. While we still have some positions to fill, the foundation is solid. This team is made up of selfless individuals who prioritize supporting one another and embody the ethos of making their teammates look good. It’s a small team, but many thanks to Greg Silvas, Daniel Daigneault, Matt Givens, Austin Marsh, and Zack Black for your patience.
