A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11
During tutor time we have been encouraging students to get stuck into their revision, working in small groups where they focus on a subject together and help each other improve. This week we have launched the new library bookmark competition with the winning entries being printed and distributed in the library. Prizes include vouchers and ePraise points. Well done to the House Captains who helped out with the Year 9 options evening this week. They shared their experiences and supported Year 9 students with making the best decisions for future subject option choices. The House Captains are also working hard behind the scenes on pulling together the photos, messages and best wishes for the Yearbook so that all students can enjoy this at the end of the term. Next week is our final week in school before the mock exams. Students will be working hard to complete their coursework deadlines and Drama students performing their practiced pieces to parents and staff after school. I would also like to remind you to purchase tickets for the Prom and your Yearbooks now via Parentpay. We will be launching the leavers’ hoodie sale after half term so look out for a letter with all the information about that coming soon.
MRS ROOK, HEAD OF YEAR 11
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins
In a dystopian future, the capital holds annual games where one boy and one girl (aged 12-18) from each of the 12 districts is chosen to fight to the death in an arena. The games are televised and shown across the country as a reminder to the labourers in the district that they are powerless against the capital. When Katniss’ sister has her name called during the annual reaping, Katniss volunteers to take her place as a daring act of sacrifice. The contrast between the glamour of the capital and the harsh conditions of the districts is an eye opening com- mentary on the dangers of political corruption and capitalism.
