A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 13
This week we have continued to hear of all the university offers that are coming through and are thrilled to report that last Friday, one of our students received an offer from Cambridge University to study Psychology. On Monday we hosted a talk from Lilit Ovakimian (Waldegrave alumni) and some of her colleagues. They were talking about their roles at Samsung and how to get accepted into high profile programmes at large companies like Samsung. This was extremely helpful for our students to learn how to secure a place on a highly competitive programme as most large companies run similar recruitment schemes. They also discussed the skills they needed to succeed when working in that kind of environment. It is not long now until the half-term break, after which mock exams will be taking place: 24 February- 7 March. Students have now been sent the timetables for their exams. Please can they check these carefully as any clashes must be reported to Ms Pugh as soon as possible, so she can inform the exams officer and rearrange their exams.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Hag-seed’ - Margaret Atwood
A marvellous retelling of the infamous Shakespearian play ‘The Tempest’. The story is weaved into the life of troubled, grieving Felix, theatre director, as he is exiled out of his town by his closest friends. He tries to avenge those who betrayed him and come to terms with the loss of his daughter as he directs ‘The Tempest’ with inmates as the actors as part of his new job. Atwood’s clear intelligence in Shakespeare’s work along with her unique, compelling writing style makes this book perfect for people who are interested yet perhaps intimidated by the complexity of Shakespeare.
