ENGINEERING: MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING BAY CAMPUS

OVERALL SATISFACTION (National Student Survey 2021) IN THE UK 2 ND

Material Science and Engineering is at the heart of many of the more well known engineering, science, and design subjects. Material science explores how the structure of a material at the micro, or even atomic scale can influence the final properties of a product or component and how materials respond to external influences such as mechanical loading or environment.

Foundation Year available – see pages 58-63 for full details Global Opportunities available † Work Placement or Internship Opportunities available International Students foundation programme available Welsh Scholarships/Bursaries available

You will get the opportunity to meet representatives from more than 40 companies, including Rolls-Royce, Tata Steel, BASF, NSG Airbus, Timet and GE, who support us through guest lectures and funded placements. As you progress, your developing analytical abilities will combine with hands-on experience of advanced equipment, establishing skills which are vital to securing employment in the wider industry. Our state-of-the-art facilities include world-leading equipment for the characterisation of mechanical properties of metallic, ceramic, polymeric and composite materials. We also have an extensive range of laboratories housing scanning electron microscopes with full microanalysis and electron backscatter diffraction capabilities. Visits to Tata Steel, Timet, Ensinger and Airbus will give you valuable insights into the industrial world.
