Mandarin Chinese has over 950 million native speakers worldwide and is often the most common language required for professional translation services. This degree is unique in the UK and is for students with a native or near-native command of Mandarin and a high level of competence in English.

On this unique degree, you will develop translation and interpreting skills in advanced English, and study specialist English-Chinese translation workshops for: media, journalism and PR; business, administration and law; economics and finance; and engineering, science and medicine. In addition to translation and interpreting skills, there are also opportunities for learning European languages and cultures, and applied linguistics. You will have practical training modules in our computer labs, with leading software tools and experience an external virtual learning environment through mobile apps and online videos.

The programme is only available to native or near-native speakers of Chinese Mandarin. Our preferred offer is BBB at A Level or HKDSE levels 443 including a minimum of 3 in English and Chinese. Applicants from China should have at least one year suitable study after their High School Certificate e.g. foundation or degree, plus IELTS 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component).
