The last few months have been hot and wet but that is nothing new for the summer season here in Qld. We all sympathise with those in parts of Qld outside the southeast that are experiencing floods and many of the residents are keeping updated on what is happening in their old hometowns. Many of our residents and staff are looking forward to being able to get outside before the weather turns too cold. Our gardens are all growing well. We have had a few comments about the removal of the Frangipani that was growing out of the concrete near the front carpark. This was because it was diseased and could not be revived. It was planted in poor soil and concrete. We now have a new pot and a native lilac callistemon which is being nurtured. Our new maintenance officer, with a green thumb, Ken is slowly updating the gardens in the front and will continue to work with the new garden contractors to update the gardens slowly. The roadworks out the front have finally finished and in the past week they have turned on the traffic lights to get out of the Woolies carpark to turn right into Buckley Road, so when you are leaving the facility and travelling south, please remember that there are now two sets of lights to go through. If is great to have our two clinical nurses Anne and Tabi back after maternity leave, it only seems like yesterday that they went on maternity leave and now their little ones are almost 8 months old. We appreciate feedback from everyone and have had some great comments lately about the facility, one of our residents stated that she did not want to come into care, but now she tells everyone that she has died and gone to heaven and all the staff are the angels. It is great to get good feedback like this, but we also appreciate getting any kind of feedback. Please remember we cannot fix issues if you don’t tell us about them. Thank you all for your support Annette Facility Manager

Message from Lifestyle David And just like that, another three months have passed. Time certainly seems to be flying by. Over the past few months, the Lifestyle team has been busy planning and introducing a range of new activities and experiences for all to enjoy.
Over the past month, we have introduced weekly buffet breakfasts within each community household, providing a relaxed and social way to start the day together. We have also recently purchased a pool table, which has quickly become a favourite activity for all who enjoy coming together for a friendly game. One of our recent highlights was a guessing game competition, where we asked all to guess “Who was Who?” from a selection of photos. This activity created plenty of conversation, laughter, and friendly competition. We also celebrated Australia Day and Waitangi Day together as a multicultural celebration, recognising and embracing the diverse cultures within our community. We had morning tea in the café, followed by Armchair Travel exploring Australia and New Zealand. The celebration also included a special performance by a New Zealand singer who performed the haka, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Our weekly visits from the local kindy children continue to be a highlight. We have been enjoying cooking activities together, and everyone always looks forward to these visits. We are also excited to be visiting the kindy late March. We came together to celebrate Valentine’s Day, with plenty of smiles and happy faces throughout the day. There has also been lots of cooking activities taking place and we have been walking to the new local shops, giving all the opportunity to get out, enjoy some fresh air, and remain connected with the local community. We now have two greenhouses in the garden, with a wide variety of plants growing inside. All are warmly invited to come and explore the garden and enjoy the beautiful sunflowers that are thriving. Inside the greenhouse, you will also find a collection of orchids being carefully grown by one of our residents. While they are not flowering just yet, they are being well cared for and we look forward to seeing them bloom. We are also trying to grow poppies in the garden in preparation for ANZAC Day, creating a meaningful display to honour and remember those who served. David Lifestyle Coordinator
Community Happenings Summer
Three Christmas Parties! Yes, you read that right. Three! Each one brought families and loved ones through our doors and filled the home with the kind of warmth and joy that only Christmas can bring. Santa made his rounds, the raffle was drawn, a delicious Christmas lunch was shared, and the smiles in the room said everything. A very merry time indeed. Carols, Concerts, and Christmas Cheer The Burpengary Seventh-day Adventist group came to sing for us and truly brightened our day with their beautiful carols. Rob Stevenson visited us twice throughout December, filling the home with music, warmth, and festivity. There is something about live music at Christmas that just gets into your bones in the best possible way.
Kindy Kids and Christmas Creativity The kindy children joined us for arts and crafts during December and the energy and joy they brought with them was something else entirely. Drawing, creating, laughing, and connecting across the generations, it was one of those visits that stays with you long after the children have gone home. Christmas Lights Hunting We headed out one evening on a Christmas lights hunt and what a night it was. Driving through streets of glittering displays, everyone taking in the colour and creativity, and the delightful surprise of bumping into some of our own staff out enjoying the lights too. A truly memorable evening. Harvesting from Our Potato Tower
With a little teamwork and a lot of satisfaction, we harvested potatoes from our very own specially designed potato tower. Getting out into the garden, working together, and seeing the results of something we had grown ourselves was a genuinely rewarding experience and one we were all very proud of.

Community Happenings Summer
Bus Trips and Ice Cream Summer at Burpengary Manor meant bus trips, and plenty of them. Redcliffe, Scarborough, and beyond, with scenic views, fresh air, and ice cream treats along the way. The ice cream cart also made a very popular visit to the manor itself, which as always brought out the biggest smiles. Simple pleasures really are the best.
Building Our Second Greenhouse One of the highlights of the summer was coming together as a team to assemble our second greenhouse. Working side by side, everyone pitching in, and then standing back to look at what we had built together. That kind of shared achievement is something you cannot put a price on. Australia Day We celebrated Australia Day in proper style with an Aussie-themed morning tea, a wonderful armchair travel journey around some of our most iconic destinations, and fun interactive games that had plenty of laughter echoing through the home. A day full of pride, memories, and good company. Waitangi Day and the Great Pavlova Debate We marked Waitangi Day with New Zealand food in the café, a fantastic live concert with a haka demonstration that had everyone captivated, and an armchair travel session exploring New Zealand together. And then came the question that divided the room: who invented the pavlova? New Zealand or Australia? The debate is very much ongoing and we suspect it always will be!

AI Caricatures This one was a first for all of us and it was absolutely hilarious. We had a go at creating personalised AI caricature images of ourselves and the results were something to behold. Laughter, creativity, and more than a few very entertaining portraits made this one of the most unexpectedly fun activities of the whole summer.
Buffet Breakfast in the Café Not once but twice this summer we enjoyed a self-serve buffet breakfast in the café, and the response from everyone was just lovely. Choosing your own breakfast, setting your own pace, and sharing the morning together in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Already very much looking forward to the next one. Valentine’s Day A special morning tea in the café with good company, warm conversation, and a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. A lovely way to mark the day and share a little love with the people around us.

Kindy Visits from Lead Childcare The children from Lead Childcare visited us twice this summer and each time was just as wonderful as the last. In December for arts and crafts, and in February for hand painting together, their energy, enthusiasm, and pure joy are absolutely infectious. These visits light up the whole home and we cherish every single one. Pancake Day, Nail Painting, and the Weekly Shop Pancakes fresh from the kitchen, nails painted just so, and a trip out to the shops for the weekly groceries. Sometimes the best days are the ones filled with ordinary, lovely things done together. As we have learned, something as simple as a shopping trip can bring happiness and brighten a whole day.
Message from Clinical Care Giselle
Dear Residents, To help us support your health needs, we kindly ask residents or their next of kin to please let the nursing staff know if you would like to: • See the doctor • Be booked in to see the visiting optometrist • Be seen by Hearing Australia • Be referred to physio By letting the nurses know as early as possible, we can ensure appointments are arranged in a timely manner and that you don’t miss out when visiting services are scheduled. Keep up to date with your vaccinations Fluvax and Covid Boosters are due in April, vaccines not only help you but can help protect those around you. Staying Safe in Humid Weather With the warmer, humid weather, we kindly remind residents to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, limit time in direct sunlight, and use the sunscreen provided when going outdoors. These simple steps help reduce the risk of dehydration and heat related illness. If you need assistance with fluids, sunscreen, or staying cool, please let a staff member know, we’re always happy to help. Kind regards Giselle Clinical Care Coordinator

Sausage Rolls 1kg pork mince 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 large brown onion, grated 1 large carrot, grated 1 ½ tablespoons dried Italian herb mix 1 cup panko breadcrumbs 3 eggs 3 sheets frozen ready-rolled puff pastry,
partially thawed (see tip) 1 tablespoon sesame seeds tomato sauce, to serve
1. Preheat oven to 200°C fan-forced. Grease 2 large baking trays lined with baking paper. 2. Combine oil and onion in a microwave- safe bowl. Cover with a sheet of damp paper towel. Microwave for 2 minutes on High/100%. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes. 3. Combine pork mince, carrot, dried herbs, breadcrumbs, 2 eggs and cooled onion mixture in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Using clean hands, mix thoroughly until well combined. Divide pork mixture into 6 equal portions. 4. Whisk the remaining egg with a fork. Lay pastry sheets onto a work surface and cut each in half. 5. Using one portion of pork mixture, spread into a long sausage shape along the long edge of one halved pastry sheet. Brush the opposite long edge with beaten egg. Roll up pastry to enclose the pork mixture, pressing the edges together to seal. Repeat using remaining pork and pastry. 6. Brush sausage rolls with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and cut each into 6. Place sausage rolls, seam-side down with a little space between each one, onto the prepared trays. 7. Bake for 38-40 minutes, swapping the trays in the oven after 25 minutes, or until golden and puffed. Serve with tomato sauce. It’s easier to work with pastry when its partially thawed, just make sure it’s completely thawed before you start cooking. The sausage rolls freeze well, cooked or uncooked in airtight containers or bags, for up to 3 months.

Influenza Vaccines Influenza (flu) is a common viral illness that affects people of all ages. While symptoms may be mild for some, influenza can cause serious illness and may lead to hospitalisation—even in otherwise healthy people.
The safest and most effective way to protect yourself and others is to receive an influenza vaccination each year from a health professional. The flu virus changes regularly, so the vaccine is updated annually, which is why yearly vaccination is important. The type of vaccine recommended depends on your age and health needs, and your GP can advise which option is right for you. Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged six months and over. Receiving a vaccination not only helps protect you—it also helps protect your family, friends, and the wider community. For more information on vaccinations, please see a friendly member of the care team. Do you know about PainChek? Within our homes, we use the PainChek system, a clinically validated digital pain assessment tool. Using AI technology to support a modern pain assessment framework PainChek will identify the presence of pain even when it’s not obvious. PainChek is fast and easy to use. Using a smart device, the device’s camera looks at the person’s face then analyses the images using AI driven facial recognition. PainChek analyses facial expressions and facial muscle movements in real time and combines this information with observations of behaviour, body movements, and vocalisations to generate an objective pain score. This information calculates an overall pain score and stores the result. This outcome forms the evidence base supporting the implementation of pain management interventions, and for the ongoing monitoring of their effectiveness over time. This approach supports the early identification of pain, more consistent assessments, and improved pain management. By enabling accurate and timely pain recognition, PainChek helps care teams deliver safer, more consistent, and person‑centred care. All assessments are stored securely, allowing for trend monitoring and shared clinical insights to support ongoing care planning. Kind regards, Janet State Quality Manager

Summer Highlights December 2025 What a December it was at Burpengary Manor! We kicked off the festive season with not one but three Christmas parties, each one filled with families, loved ones, laughter, and plenty of Christmas cheer. Santa paid us a visit, the Christmas raffle was drawn with residents and staff among the lucky winners, and we headed out one evening on a Christmas lights hunt that had everyone glowing almost as brightly as the displays themselves. The Burpengary Seventh-day Adventist group came to sing beautiful carols for us, Rob Stevenson visited twice with his wonderful music, and kindy children joined us for arts and crafts, drawing and creating colourful memories together. We decorated the Christmas tree, harvested potatoes from our very own potato tower, wrapped presents ready for Santa, and our staff dressed in festive outfits all month long bringing smiles wherever they went. A full, joyful, and truly memorable December.

January 2026
January was busy, fun, and full of good things. We enjoyed bus trips to Redcliffe, Scarborough, and beyond, with ice cream treats along the way that nobody complained about! The ice cream cart also made a very welcome appearance at the manor. We played indoor bowls, bocce, and ball games, enjoyed music therapy and morning concerts, got our hands in the garden, and worked together as a team to assemble our second greenhouse which was a real sense of achievement for everyone involved. Knit and Natter sessions kept the needles busy, we celebrated Australia Day with Aussie-themed morning tea and armchair travel around the country, and we even had a very entertaining Staff and Baby Photo Guessing Competition. January had something wonderful in it every single day.

Summer Highlights February 2026 February at Burpengary Manor was packed from start to finish. We celebrated Waitangi Day with New Zealand food, a live concert including a haka demonstration, and a very lively pavlova debate that we will not be settling any time soon. The kindy children from Lead Childcare visited twice, once for arts and crafts and once for hand painting together, and both visits were an absolute delight. We tried our hand at creating AI caricature images of ourselves which had everyone in hysterics, enjoyed self-serve buffet breakfasts in the café, celebrated Valentine’s Day with a lovely morning tea, cooked pancakes for Pancake Day, painted nails, tended the garden, played pool on our brand new table, and headed out to the shops for the weekly grocery run. A wonderfully full and happy month.
