CAMAS MILL DISTRICT PLAN
Discussion Draft

don't use anymore. Georgia Pacific is no friend of Camas anymore. They are an eyesore, a hazard, and a monument to environmental destruction. 14.Deal with the paper mill. Have more green space and kids play areas, especially near high density housing. More sidewalks and bike lanes…The Paper Mill is a big question mark. Lots of empty lots that could be festival parking. Multipurpose recreation facilities. 15.Moderately worried about the degradation of the mill and the toxic effects of that plus the visual of an old dilapidated mill is just not appealing. 16.I would love to see some the old mill land cleaned up and developed into more dense mixed-use to expand downtown. Better public transit would be cool to (a street car between Camas and Washougal???) 17.Remove the buildings of the mill and open more access to the Columbia River. 18.Obviously, the mill is a huge part of Camas’s history, but it is a huge space now that could probably be better used in other ways since so few people actually work at the mill anymore. I know repurposing that space is a massive undertaking, but it’s something I would hope to see happen in the future. 19.Traffic. Plan for the mill; think about what is next for that area. Growth management: we need to ensure there is workforce housing. Be wary of northward growth, consider increasing density in other areas. 22.Push to keep historic downtown Camas as an economic center of the city. With the increased housing development, I have concern that the historical charm will not be able to withstand the growth. I would also like to see more effort going towards addressing the PFAS in well 13 (and wherever else it may have leached to), more transparency with Camas paper mill, and proactively holding up it’s connection to Earth Day through the coordinator, Denis Hayes. 23.get rid of the mill asap and we’ll all be better for it. property taxes from that in an of itself will help boost building more trails. 24.The mill must be cleaned up including ensuring contamination has not already, or will threaten our drinking water. The mill, much of with is no longer in use, should be the focus of new growth. 25.Every citizen in the city Developers should have no say in anything Look at refining zoning Include downtown camas association Get the mill owners involved 26.Along with the mill to the north, this property should be fully remediated to unrestricted use when/ where economically feasible and groundwater classified (remediated) to potable 27.I agree that the Mill Clean Up level and adequacy is key for our City's present and future - This site deserves considerable attention given its waterfront access and years of operation that have potentially impacted the soil, water and groundwater across the entire property. It should be remediated to unrestricted use and groundwater categorized (and if needed remediated) as potable water 28.I think the key in the long term future is in the clean up and eventual transition of the existing mill. Someday this mill will go and with it is an opportunity to still tell the historic Camas legacy, while bringing modern development and opportunity in a prime location of downtown 29.Revamp the mill into a shopping / lifestyle center like the Bend Mill District. Preserve our trails. 30. Downtown. A vision for the mill is critical, and should be mixed use with housing 31.I would hope part of the paper mill could be maintained since there would be no Camas history without the presence of the mill in Camas. 32.While the Mill isn't nearly as large and productive as it once was, this is a big part of Camas history and at least the interpretive lobby should be maintained. 33.the history of Camas is centered on downtown. The town was formed around the mill industry which is 20.Reclaim the mill; take care of the water quality of the Lacamas Lake 21. A beautiful waterfront would be nice. The mill is kind of an eyesore. why roads built oriented to mill and such. At some point the mill needs to go, but the history is important & should be used as educational opportunities. The older & repurposed buildings help preserve the character and new DCA educational signs help hint into the past. Would love to see more 34.The natural beauty, open spaces, parks, outdoor recreation. It would be amazing to turn the mill into a a cool shopping area once it isn’t running anymore.
