CAMAS MILL DISTRICT PLAN
Discussion Draft

35.Enhance walkability and connection to the river. Camas could also get rid of the mill so that we can get back our views and connection to the riverfront. 36.The downtown area needs more restaurants and community areas that are open to bring regular business to the stores. A large portion of the main blocks are closed most of the time. The mill is an eye-sore 37.More density and apts/condos. Less parking lots and more retail/dining space. Community gathering center. Finally, mill redevelopment. 38.More multi family housing. Revamp mill area and utilize space differently. 39.Adding more businesses (not churches) in the downtown streets and planning for the eventual mill closing. 40. The mill should be mostly demolished but a small portion used as a museum. Allow for low income programs to thrive like boys and girls club instead of removing. Many people depended on those resources 41.Do something with all the property from the Mill that is no longer used. 42. Take down the paper mill ! Add more parking lots 43.Expand the former and some-day former Mill property and make it mixed use residential, commercial and usable green space for public recreation but keep the old-town character and feel (convert parts of the old Mill to brewery/restaurant/concert/small conventions space like Edgefield 44.The future the mill property needs thoughtful planning to add its blocks to the core, carrying on the streetscape and LOCALLY OWNED small businesses, with varied living options thrown in. 45.The mill property redevelopment should add to the downtown, more parking downtown, better playgrounds and sports fields, maintenance of existing trails. 46.I would love to see the mill become a more beautiful or interactive part of the landscape. I know GP is holding onto mill operations with white knuckles to avoid a cleanup, but imagine covering its walls in murals or, eventually, converting the inside into apartments! 47.We are a town on the river. It would be wonderful for the downtown to expand to front the river and have wonderful trails, shops, bakeries, restaurants, artwork etc there. (Like The Old Mill District in Bend) 4. 48.No more mill. 49.I would like to raze the paper mill and build out some amenities on the waterfront 50.Replacing the papermill with a massive public green space; 51.If the mill closes completely, we need to clean it up/ destruct it and put in a nice waterfront shopping and restaurant district. 52.Keep a portion of the historic mill and turn it into a museum that's large enough to house the Washougal museum and showcase the rest of Camas/Washougal history. Make the rest of the area a bike/walking path, places for families, pets, picnics and a view of the river. It would be the perfect place to put in an amphitheater to host concerts. No one wants to drive down the hill or drive past the large eye sore of falling apart mill that isn't fully operational anymore. Yes, it helped the town thrive, but we need more places for families. 53.Work to give incentives to take down the paper mill. It’s time has past. 54.Have condos and businesses on current mill property; waterfront development 55.Need to figure out and develop the mill if that is an option. We need more restaurants. More activity and people downtown. 56.Add Mixed=use to Mill property, clean up to mixed-use standards
