Na Malti, u mestu Mgar, kraj aprila obeležava festival jago- da – možda i najjednostavniji, ali i najradosniji od svih. Jago- de su svuda: u kolačima, pićima, džemovima, kao i u slanim kombinacijama koje iznenađuju. To je slavlje jedne voćkice, ali i početka toplijih dana, kada se život konačno vraća napolje. „Strawberry Festival“ (oko 20–30. aprila) fokusiran je na jednu namirnicu ali i zajednicu koja je slavi. Van Festivala male pijace na Malti u ovom periodu nude rane prolećne proizvode i jednostavnu, sezonsku kuhinju zasnova- nu na povrću, maslinovom ulju i ribi. Late April in the Maltese village of Mġarr is marked by the Strawberry Festival that’s perhaps the simplest, but also the most joyful of all. Strawberries are simply everywhere: in cakes, drinks and jams, but also in surprising savoury combina- tions. This is a celebration of a fruit, but also marks the arrival of warmer days, when outdoor life finally returns. The Strawberry Festival (held from around 20 th to 30 th April) focuses on a single food item and the community that celebrates it. Beyond festivals, it is during this period that Malta’s small mar- kets offer early spring produce and simple, seasonal cuisine based on vegetables, olive oil and fish. MALTA MALTA

April marks the time of year when the smells of winter are replaced by the scents of something fresh, green and just picked. Market stalls become more colourful, and food is presented on streets, squares and at small festivals S omewhere between the first strawber- ries and the last warm soups, April is per- haps the most beauti- ful time to travel through flavours. It’s a time for little discoveries - of markets with earthy smells or fes- tivals dedicated to a single ingredi- ent. And maybe there really is no better way to get acquainted with a destination in spring.
