The Louvre is one of the world’s larg- est and most famous museums, with a priceless collection that encompasses an- cient art, the Renaissance, Baroque and art schools over the course of centuries. It is known for the monumental com- plex that was once a royal palace and to- day preserves works from all periods of art history — from Egyptian relics to Eu- ropean masterpieces. Michelangelo & Rodin: Living Bodies The exhibition “Michelangelo and Rodin: Living Bodies” opens on 15 th April and runs until 20 th July. It has a concept that’s unique in the sense that it creates a direct dialogue between the works of Mi- chelangelo Buonarroti and Auguste Ro- din — perhaps the two most significant sculptors in the history of Western art. The exhibition focuses on the hu- man body — as observed, interpreted and transformed through the work of these two artists. Through five themat- ic units — from “Two Mythical Artists” to “Energy and Life” — the exhibition ex- plores how the ideal of form, movement and internal energy became key motifs of their sculptural practices. Michelange- lo is known for classical approaches and monumental strength of the body, while Rodin used dynamic surfaces and pro- nounced texture to capture movement and life energy. This isn’t merely a presenta- tion of sculptures — it is a visual
METROPOLITAN METROPOLITAN

dialogue between epochs: the Renaissance search for the ide- al of perfect form and the mod- ern interpretation of the body as a vehicle for expression, emotion
and inner tension. Why it matters
“Living Bodies” isn’t a tra- ditional retrospective, but rath- er a comparative project that en- ables the viewer to understand the evolution of European sculp- ture through the comparison of
two greats — their strategies, techniques and philosophies of shaping the human figure. This type of presentation is rare- ly seen in museums and provides a new perspective on how artists have influ- enced each other over centuries.
