T hrough this collaboration, Child’s Heart members will use Air Serbia pilot and cabin crew uniforms to create new items, giving the materials a new value and purpose. Parts of the former uniforms will be transformed into toiletry bags, handbags and clothing for pets. Materials that were once part of journeys through the skies are now becoming a symbol of new beginnings – empowering people, caring for the community, and fostering a responsible approach to the environment. This initiative represents another step by Air Serbia aimed at enhancing socially responsible activities and supporting sustainable development, while simultaneously strengthening inclusion and creating employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. “We are aware of the responsibility we have as the national airline, which extends beyond simply improving our country’s connectivity to destinations around the world. We want to be a reliable partner to the community in which we operate. Cooperation with the Child’s Heart humanitarian organisation enables us to support the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities, while also further integrating the principles of the circular economy into our business. We are proud that these uniforms are gaining a new purpose and that, together, we are creating value with both social and environmental impact,” said Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek. “This cooperation is of exceptional importance to us. It gives our users the opportunity to express their skills through

creative work and further strengthen their self-confidence. Every item created is a story of effort, dedication and the opportunities that open up when support and understanding are present. We are pleased that the national airline has recognised the importance of inclusion and entrusted us to build a future with more sustainability and solidarity together,” said Child’s Heart director Goran Rojević. Child’s Heart has existed as a humanitarian organisation for 25 years. It actively runs programmes aimed at supporting and including children and young adults with developmental disabilities through educational, occupational and social activities. Its daily work contributes to implementing inclusion, as it is not just an idea but a way of life that emerges when everyone is given the opportunity to participate, grow and be accepted. The organisation’s own “Sounds of the Heart” work centre and café was established in February 2019 and employs young people with developmental disabilities.

The recycling of uniforms for pilots and cabin crew have not only resulted in the creation of toiletry bags, laptop bags and clothing for dogs, but also the opportu- nity to engage and employ persons with developmental disabilities. For many of these young people, working on the re- cycling of uniforms provided their first op- portunity for employment after years of searching for work while being confined to the home, with no possibility of so- cial inclusion. Such projects have trans- formed the lives of young people with developmental disabilities by giving them a chance to work, study and become ac- tive members of the community.
