Peer through this floral window to see Toma Rosandić’s Black Horses at Play sculpture in front of the monumental building of the Serbian National Assembly. Just 28 steps separate the bustling street from this impressive building where the fate of Serbia has been decided for less than a century. The foundation stone of the House of National Assembly was laid on 27 th August 1907 by King Petar I Karađorđević. Since 1939, this parliament building has been silently guarded by two grandiose statues of playing horses. In springtime, the pink treetops on the plateau in front of the assembly serve to soften the austere monumentality of this political edifice.
