OSTRVO OBASJANO VATROMETOM ISLAND ILLUMINATED BY FIREWORKS
If you’re seeking a specific reason to travel, Malta has one in April –actually it has two very clear reasons. The first is Easter Sunday, when the towns of Valletta and Rabat host major processions: statues are brought out into the streets and orchestras accompany the processions, while the locals participate actively. The second reason is the Malta International Fireworks Festival, which is usually held at the end of the month (this year’s edition runs from the 18 th to the 30 th ). The central events are held in the Grand Harbour of Valletta, where fireworks explode above the sea, against the backdrop of the historic walls. The jubilee 25 th edition of the festival will include spectacular performances that serve to celebrate deep-rooted Maltese traditions, bringing together local and international teams for competitive, choreographed firework shows, culminating in the grand finale on 30 th April. Apart from this event, April is also a wonderful month to visit Malta because the temperatures remain mild and, thus, walking is the most pleasant way to explore the island. Observation points like the Dingle Cliffs offer expansive views, while Upper Barrakka Gardens provide quick and clear insight into the geography of the Grand Harbour. April is also a good time to visit the island’s interior: Mdina, the former capital, offers a completely different rhythm – quiet, stone-clad and almost free of traffic. Located there is the Temple of Ħaġar Qim, which is older than the Egyptian pyramids. For a day trip, the island of Gozo is ideal – greener, more serene and less touristy.
Ako tražite konkretan razlog za put, Malta ih u aprilu ima – i to dva vrlo jasna. Prvi je Uskršnja nedelja, kada se u mestima poput Valete i Rabata odvijaju velike procesije: statue se iznose na ulice, orkestri prate povorke, a lokalno stanovništvo aktivno učestvuje. Drugi je Međunarodni festival vatrometa na Malti, koji se najčešće održava krajem meseca (ove godine od 18. do 30. aprila). Centralni događaji su u luci Valete, gde se
vatromet ispaljuje iznad mora, uz kulise istorijskih zidina. Jubilarni 25. Festival spektakularnim nastupima proslavlja duboko ukorenjenu maltešku tradiciju. Okupiće lokalne i međunarodne timove za takmičarske, koreografisane predstave, koje kulminiraju velikim finalom 30. aprila. Osim toga, april je divan mesec za obilazak ostrva jer su temperature umerene, pa su šetnje najprijatniji način istraživanja. Vidikovci poput Dingli klifsa nude otvorene poglede, dok Aper baraka gardens daju brz obilazak unutrašnjosti ostrva: Mdina, nekadašnja prestonica, nudi potpuno drugačiji ritam – tiha, kamena i gotovo bez saobraćaja. Za jednodnevni izlet idealno je ostrvo Gozo – zelenije, mirnije i manje turističko. i jasan uvid u geografiju glavne luke. April je dobar trenutak i za
