SUMMARY ANNUAL REPORT FOR MAA 401(K) SAVINGS PLAN

This is a summary of the annual report for the MAA 401(k) Savings Plan, EIN 62-1543819, Plan No. 001, for the period January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Basic Financial Statement

Benefits under the plan are provided through a trust fund. Plan Expenses were $9,703,765. These expenses included $9,381,513 in benefits paid to participants and beneficiaries, $31,657 in certain deemed distributions of participant loans and $290,595 in other expenses. A total of 2,768 persons were participants in or beneficiaries of the plan at the end of the plan year. The value of plan assets, after subtracting liabilities of the plan, was $127,660,100 as of December 31, 2023, compared to $106,708,193 as of January 1, 2023. During the plan year the plan experienced an increase in its assets of $20,951,907. This increase includes unrealized appreciation and depreciation in the value of plan assets; that is, the difference between the value of the plan's assets at the end of the year and the value of the assets at the beginning of the year or the cost of assets acquired during the year. The plan had total income of $30,655,672 including employee contributions of $7,525,378, employer contributions of $4,664,004, rollover contributions of $175,711 and earnings from investments of $18,290,579.

Paperwork Reduction Act Statement

According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (Pub.
