Allegheny County 2022 Highlights Report

DISTRICT 1 TEMPORARY SALT DOME In 2022, Facilities Management trades staff oversaw installation of a new salt dome for District 1 in the North Park area. The existing salt dome had damage that led to leaks and safety issues and was not able to protect the winter salt. Due to timing, this structure is a temporary salt dome, but will be repurposed for future storage after the permanent salt dome is installed.

GREEN CLEANING PROGRAM The county continued its green cleaning policy in 2022 by implementing a new dilution-based cleaning system in the downtown buildings. Results of the new dilution-based cleaning system include cost savings, longer lasting cleaning products, product consistency, and a reduction in packaging waste. The county also continued to switch out cleaning chemicals that meet third-party certifications such as Ecologo, EPA Safer Choice, or Green Seal, or ones that contain low concern active ingredients. Use of these products are not only better for the environment but are safer for the custodial workforce. COURTHOUSE RENOVATIONS Facilities Management completed the remodel and upgrade of the county courthouse ground floor women’s restroom. Results include providing an accessible restroom to the public and guests in the building. The sinks and stalls were reconfigured and replaced to meet current ADA standards. The design layout was chosen to modernize the facility while keeping much of its historical infrastructure intact.
