Allegheny County 2022 Highlights Report

MINORITY-WOMEN-VETERAN LOAN PROGRAM Partnering with Axiom Advancement Corp., and the Equity and Inclusion Department, the Business Development Division launched a Minority-Women-Veteran (MWV) Loan Program designed to provide a variety of financing options to eligible minority, women, and veteran owned small businesses. MWV Loan products include traditional term loans up to $50,000, short-term lending up to $100,000 and debt refinancing up to $15,000. In 2022, the program received 40 applications seeking assistance with technical, underwriting, and administrative functions specific to each business’s unique needs. In addition, the MWV program awarded business loans to three small business seeking funds for equipment, marketing materials, signage, debt consolidation, and building improvements. The three small business awarded funds are Thick-But-Fit Crew in McKeesport, Charm Beauty & Esthetics in Etna, and Mesee Cakes & Deli in Homestead. CARRIE FURNACE At the Carrie Furnace site, development and infrastructure installation for a Tech Flex building space began in the fall of 2022. Tech Flex buildings are facilities designed to accommodate and provide office space to support a wide range of business activities. In addition, Tech Flex buildings include features such as warehouse storage space, utility infrastructure for call centers or data centers, and environmental controls for retail stores, to name a few. Plans for the building space also include the addition of a film village and a bike/pedestrian bridge crossing to connect the local community to the Carrie Furnace site.
