Î Brainstorming: Work together with the individual to create a strategy for putting these new goals at the forefront of their focus in their current position. How can they incorporate the actions they have committed to and bring their attention and focus to the responsibilities of their current position? Help them to also find a strategy for tackling the urge to put their focus into their previous position, as it may slow them down while they strive to reach new goals.
Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Journal-Based Coaching: Assign the individual to keep a journal with entries noting situations in the coming weeks where they felt like they were having a hard time letting go of something from their previous position. How can they place their energy into getting organized in their new position and its goals instead? What strategies did they take in those situations to focus their energy into reaching success in their new position?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î Non-Verbal Coaching: Letting go for some folks is hard — take the time to leave the individual a hand-written note at their workstation, sharing with them any specific actions observed taken by the individual to focus hard on reaching a goal for their new position. Let them know exactly what they did to put themselves closer to their goal and let them know that their focus is appreciated.
