Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Observational Coaching: Have your employee observe their peer in their initial interactions with new clients. Your employee should take notes — three things that they think their peer did well and how this person could implement those things in their own conversations to boost their first impressions, and three things that his/her peer could have done better and how those improvements will benefit the first impression that their peer is making. Your coaching target should bring those notes to your next coaching session for discussion. Î Journal-Based Coaching: Have this person journal with each new interaction that he/she makes throughout the week. Their entries should include thoughts on how each interaction can benefit their work relationships in the long run. How are first impressions and long- standing relationships tied together and how can they both benefit this person?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î Non-Verbal Coaching: As your coaching target begins to make positive strides in their efforts to improve first impressions with the clients they interact with, leave a handwritten note at their workstation to let them know you have observed their progress, referring to specific actions taken to make these improvements.
