Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Assign your coaching target to meet with a new peer each week to discuss their strategies for asking questions to dig deeper into their conversations with their team members. What types of questions do their peers implement in their conversations so that they ensure that they are getting all of the information they need? What takeaways from their peer meetings can they put into practice in their own conversations? Have the individual you are coaching email you, copying the person they just met with on the email, to share what they learned in their meeting, and what successes their peers have found by implementing the strategies that they have in place. Î Self-Directed Learning: On the next page of this Coaching Map, there is a list of question types that you learned in your own studies through the Progress Coaching online course. Share this list of questions with the individual you are coaching and ask them to create three sample questions for each of those categories for your next coaching session so that they are familiar and comfortable with the wording as they utilize more effective questions in their conversations.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
ΠObservational Coaching: Ask your coaching target to observe those around them in their interactions with others. They should note the things that they learn related to utilizing questions in their conversations as they observe others, as well as things that they observe that aren’t as successful. This will give them a reference of how others receive questions asked of them as well, so that they know what the most effective approach to different situations might be.
