Suggested Strategy: Use a Define & Coach Strategy to bring awareness to the individual’s current ability to be natural, and where they should ideally stand by putting that definition into practice.
Suggested Questions:
Î Define & Coach: When I say the word “natural” as it applies to your relationships with others related to your work, how do you think you would define that? Î Risk Question: What risks do you think you might mitigate by becoming more natural in your relationships based on that definition? Î Success Imperative: In what ways will mitigating those risks help you reach ultimate success in your position with the company?
Suggested Activities:
Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down how the individual would currently describe the perception of others in their conversations and relationships with them. On the right side of the board, write down the definition of being “natural” that you had previously discussed. Then, erase the left side of the board and brainstorm together a list of strategies and actions for the individual to implement as they practice being more natural in their real conversations and relationships at work. Î Role Play: Have practice situations prepared that relate to real situations where the individual typically struggles with being natural. Based on the definition previously discussed, have the individual practice those situations with you. Without breaking out of roles, they should practice the strategies from your whiteboard activity to build
