Suggested Strategy: Use a Define & Coach strategy to ensure that the employee understands the expectations that you have for them related to composing professional emails.
Suggested Questions:
Î Define & Coach: When I say the phrase professional emails , how do you think you would specifically define it as it relates to your position? Î Third-Party Question: If we were to ask a client to describe your current typical email, what do you think they might say? Î Self-Actualized Question: What actions or strategies are you willing to take to ensure that you are practicing the definition we just discussed each time you compose an email?
Suggested Activities:
Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down the description of their current email abilities as they believed a client might describe it. On the right side of the board, write down the ideal definition of professional email that you discussed at the beginning of the conversation. Then, erase the left side of the board and brainstorm ideas for a strategy for the employee to take each time they compose an email to ensure that they are following that ideal definition. Î Practice: Have three examples of emails from this individual printed prior to this coaching session. Bring them with you, along with two different-colored highlighters. Ask the individual to go through the three emails, highlighting parts of them that they felt they executed
