Reading Body Language
Suggested Strategy: Bring the individual’s awareness to how often they actually notice others’ body language during conversations. Use a Whiteboard Coaching Strategy to build strategies for addressing observed body language.
Suggested Questions:
Î Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing that you heavily focus your attention on the body language of others when speaking with them, and one representing that you pay no attention at all to body language, where would you rate yourself and why? Î Risk Question: What risks do you think you might mitigate by focusing more on body language in your daily conversations? Î Success Imperative: What actions do you think you must take to push toward a six and bring more focus to the body language of others to have ultimately successful conversations in the future?
Suggested Activities:
Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down all the noticeable body language that the individual can think of that they may encounter in a conversation with someone at work, and what each of those types of body language means. Then, on the right side of the board, write down the strategies or actions for the individual to take in addressing each of those types of body language. This will help them build an arsenal for acknowledging and addressing certain types of body language as they come up in conversation.
