ΠJournal-Based Coaching: Assign your coaching target to track their observations of body language in their conversations throughout the week in a journal. They should note in their journal entries the type of body language observed, as well as the individual’s strategy or actions utilized in that situation to address the body language. What was the outcome of their actions, and were they able to direct the conversation to address their peer’s body language? ΠObservational Coaching: Ask the individual you are coaching to observe the body language of individuals around the office outside of direct conversation with them. What kinds of body language do they observe, and how does the individual interpret it? Discuss their observations at your next coaching session, along with how the individual would address that body language in each situation if they were interacting directly with the individual they were observing.

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

Î 30-Second Coaching: As you observe the individual noticing and reacting to the body language of others, take 30 seconds to verbally acknowledge their efforts. Be specific in sharing with them the actions they had taken that you were able to observe, as well as how those actions are appreciated.
