Confidence in Networking
Suggested Strategy: Ask a Rating Question to bring the individual’s awareness to their comfort level as it relates to networking. Then practice the skill using Role Play so that they are prepared with conversation pieces that they can utilize to become more comfortable in real networking conversations.
Suggested Questions:
Î Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing that you are entirely comfortable in networking conversations and situations, and one representing that you are completely uncomfortable, where would you honestly rate yourself and why? Î Self-Actualized Question: What actions do you think we can take together to help you reach a six?
Suggested Activities:
Î Discussion: Work with the individual to create some conversation pieces that they can have in their arsenal as they have networking conversations — these should be things that they can personalize based on the situation or conversation they are in when actually networking. Î Role Play: Practice the newly developed conversation pieces with the individual so that they can work out any kinks in the flow of the conversation. Have them keep in mind specific situations where they will implement these conversation pieces and how they will feel when they are able to execute them.
