Coaching Opposite Personalities to Work Together

Suggested Strategy: Use a Rating Question in conjunction with a Risk Question to help the individual you are coaching learn what they could lose by not working with different personality types, and what they could gain by learning how to do so.

Suggested Questions:

Î Rating Question: On a scale of one to six, with six representing a complete openness to working with someone that has a conflicting personality type, and one representing a complete opposition to it, where would you rate yourself and why? Î Risk Question: What risks do you think you might assume by not being open to working with someone that has an opposing personality type to yours? Î Self-Actualized Question: What actions do you think you could take to help yourself reach a six and becoming more comfortable in working with someone that has an opposing personality type to yours?

Suggested Activities:

Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down how this person would currently describe their relationship with someone that has an opposing personality type to theirs. On the right side of the board, write down how this person would describe the ideal relationship with that person so as to create the best chance for success for both individuals and for the team? Erase the left side of the board and write the actions that they are committed to taking to build a positive working relationship with someone that has an opposing personality to theirs.
