Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Self-Directed Learning: Assign your coaching target to reach out to a person on the team that has an opposing personality and take two actions throughout the week to build a positive relationship with that person. At the end of the week, ask the individual to email you with any effects that they believed their actions had on the relationship. What was challenging in that situation? What was surprising?
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î 30-Second Coaching: Let the employee know they’ve done a good job, and the likelihood of them continuing that behavior will expand. Take 30 seconds of your day to verbally acknowledge specific actions taken by the employee to build a positive relationship with someone that has an opposing personality. Î Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the employee you are coaching to keep a running journal through the coming weeks with entries noting times where they felt successful in building relationships with teammates that have opposing personalities to theirs. They should also note situations where they felt that they struggled and why they felt that way.
