Î Whiteboard Coaching: Building off the previous conversation, on the righthand side of the board, take the points from your discussion and ask for feedback on their opinions on what their goals are for changing how to confront conflict by getting to the root of the problem/conflict. Then, on the left-hand side of the board, ask the team to describe how they currently get to the bottom of conflict. To finish the activity, erase the lefthand side of the board and ask the team specifically what steps need to take place in order to reach the actions and behaviors listed on the righthand side of the board.

Suggested Learning Projects:

Î Observational Coaching: Have the team leave your coaching session with the goal of observing the rest of the team and their ability to talk about and get to the heart of conflict. Have them rate their teammates by having each employee write down what the collective team did well, where they could improve, and one thing they observed that they didn’t think of prior to observing that behavior.

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

Î 30-Second Coaching: Reinforce the team’s ability to confront conflict by taking 30 seconds to verbally acknowledge the efforts made by the team to face conflict’s roots. Be specific in letting them know what they did well and how it will benefit the team.
