Suggested Learning Projects:

Î Observational Coaching: Ask the person you are coaching to observe other participants in their upcoming meetings — they should keep in mind how they might use these observations to contribute to the meetings themselves. How will they decide their level of contribution to future meetings, and how will their contributions complement those of others in the meetings? Î Tangible Successes: Assign your coaching target to come back to your next coaching session with three examples of situations where they felt confident in their contributions to both meetings with and without executives attending. What was the perceived outcome of their contributions to the meeting?

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

Î 30-Second Coaching: After a meeting where the individual successfully read the room and adjusted their contributions as appropriate in a meeting where they may not have previously done so, take 30 seconds to verbally acknowledge their efforts and share with them specifically why their actions will put them on the fast track to reaching their career goals. Î Journal-Based Coaching: Assign your coaching target to keep a running journal with entries noting situations in meetings where they felt most successful and confident in their contributions to the meeting. What strategies did they take to ensure that their participation was in congruence with what was expected of them to help reach their career goals?
