Setting Expectations

Suggested Strategy: Utilize a Define & Coach strategy with work expectations and use Role Play to understand where the employee is currently at in terms of ability to execute those expectations and quality.

Suggested Questions:

Î Define & Coach: What is your understanding of your job role and expectations and the quality associated with those expectations? Can you name three to five actions that represent that definition? Î Success Imperative: What will you do to successfully practice those skills as we defined above to achieve a high-quality work output? Î Self-Actualized Question: What do we need to do together to outline how to do what you just came up with in the above question?

Suggested Activities:

Î Define & Coach: The employee might not be entirely sure of what exactly their job requirements are. Ask them to explain what he/she thinks their job entails and you can then compare exactly to what they are expected to do by you and the company. Î Whiteboard Coaching: Come up with an action plan of how to make sure that the employee is addressing all the parts of their job description, not just what he/she wants to do, which is what most people tend to gravitate toward. Write out the strategy on a whiteboard where you will note the ultimate goal to be reached through the strategy you create together. This provides a visual of the steps to be taken to reach the goal and makes the process more tangible.
