ΠPeer-to-Peer Coaching: Assign your coaching target to meet with a new peer each week to learn how they handle situations where things did not go as intended. What strategies do they have in place for seeking opportunity from those situations rather than focusing on the negatives that they believe came about related to the scenario. What takeaways from their conversations with their peers can the individual put into practice as they analyze the outcomes of their own experiences? ΠJournal-Based Coaching: Ask the individual to keep a journal in the coming weeks with entries noting situations where things did not go as intended or planned. What actions did they take in those situations to evaluate the positives that may have come from it? What opportunities will they seize as they navigate the situations’ outcomes?

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

Π30-Second Coaching: As the individual’s outlook changes in situations where they may have previously focused on the perceived negative outcome, take 30 seconds to acknowledge the specific efforts the individual placed in seeking positive opportunities from those situations. Share with them how their actions are beneficial to the individual as they find success in the position.
