Î Define & Coach: Building off the whiteboard activity, define exactly what each behavior looks like in the office. For example, if they say, “I am best motivated by words of praise”, Define & Coach by coming up with a shared definition of what those actions should look like.
Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Tangible Successes: Ask your coaching target to come back with three instances where they succeeded on the definition from the above activities. Why were these moments successful? Î Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Ask your coaching target to meet with a new peer each week to discuss their strategies for working through stagnant points in their career. What strategies from their peers can your coaching target implement in their own motivation? Peer work allows comradery, as well as skill building techniques that may not come to mind if the individual is working alone.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î 30-Second Coaching: Let this person know when they are making positive strides toward the goal of complete success. Take 30 seconds to tell them specifically what they’ve done well and how their actions are appreciated by you and the team. Î Non-Verbal Coaching: Write the individual a note and leave it on their desk when you notice them exhibiting the behaviors and skills that were brainstormed in the activities section. Be specific in describing what they did, when, and why it was appreciated.
