Taking Initiative & Job Expectations
Suggested Strategy: Define the job expectations for your coaching target and tailor the conversation from there using Whiteboard Coaching. Coach to the importance of taking initiative to comply with their job expectations.
Suggested Questions:
Î Define & Coach: If you were to describe the expectations set for you by your position, how would you define those job expectations? Î Define & Coach: Now, if you were to define the word initiative , what comes to your mind? Î Self-Actualized Question: What actions do you think you need to take in order to exhibit that definition of initiative while adhering to the expectations of your job?
Suggested Activities:
ΠWhiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down how the employee would currently describe their ability to practice initiative. On the right side of the board, write down the definition of initiative that was previously discussed. Draw an arrow from the left side to the right side and draw four vertical hash marks along the arrow line. Below the diagram, write down the expectations set by this person’s job.
