Coaching to Career Development

Suggested Strategy: Using GOAL-Based Coaching and Whiteboard Coaching, help guide this person to find what they really want to achieve in their career and the path they must take to get there.

Suggested Questions:

Î Define & Coach: What does taking ownership of your career development mean to you? What actions can you take to ensure that you are taking ownership based on the definition we just discussed? Î Opposite Insertion Question: What actions are you committed to taking to confidently push yourself to reach your career goals?

Suggested Activities:

Î GOAL-Based Coaching: What does this person hope to become Great at in their career? What Opportunities might be presented to them by becoming great? What Actions must they take to bring those opportunities within reach?What will they Love about reaching their career goals? Î Whiteboard Coaching: On the left side of a whiteboard, write down the stage that the person you are coaching is currently at in regard to their career goals. On the right side of the board, write down their ultimate career goal, as discussed in the GOAL-Based coaching activity. Draw a horizontal arrow from the left statement toward the right statement with five vertical hash marks along the arrow. At the top of the board, write the word “Actions”. Work together to fill in the actions at each hash mark that they will need to take to reach their ultimate career goal.
