Suggested Learning Projects:

Î Tangible Successes: Assign the employee to come back to your next coaching session with five examples of positive interactions with peers from the week. What strategies from your activity did they put into practice in those interactions? What was the outcome — did receive any positive feedback? What do they feel like they might still need to practice further? Î Video-Based Coaching: Send the individual videos to watch throughout the week that relate to positive workplace relationships — these can be Ted Talks, movie clips with positive outcomes, or simple YouTube videos. Have the individual journal after each video, noting how their interactions with their peers are currently serving the team. Are the beneficial interactions like in the videos or do they tend to drift toward a negative impact? How did seeing positive peer relationships make them feel about their current relationships? Discuss the answers to these questions as well as any other takeaways that the individual took note of at your next coaching session.

Supplemental Coaching Strategies:

Î 30-Second Coaching: As you observe the relationships that this individual take part in becoming more positive and beneficial to the team, take 30 seconds to acknowledge their specific efforts and actions in positive interactions to build those relationships. Î Observational Coaching: Ask the individual to observe the relationships between their peers. How do their separate interactions have an effect on the relationship as a whole? What actions do their peers take in their interactions to build positive relationships that might differ from this person’s approach?
