Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Journal-Based Coaching: Ask the employee to keep a journal in the coming weeks, with entries detailing actions taken to build a relationship with a peer based on teamwork. The entry should include details on the action taken by the person you are coaching, what the situation was, and what effect their actions had on the relationship with their teammate. Î Self-Directed Learning: Assign your coaching target to watch a team sporting event on television in the coming week. They should email you with their observations of what the team did well together, what the team could have done better as a unit, and whether or not the team accomplished any goals (what those goals were and how they specifically accomplished them).
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î Non-Verbal Coaching: Leave the employee a hand-written note on their workstation when you observe an improvement in their willingness and comfortability in implementing teamwork into their routine and in completing their projects. Be specific in telling them the actions that you have observed and how the team relationship has been affected. Î Observational Coaching: Ask the employee to email you at the end of the week with observations made regarding teamwork-related actions by their peers. What do the teamwork relationships look like amongst various members of the team?
