Suggested Learning Projects:
Î Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Assign your coaching target to go out and meet with others in positions that require delegation on a regular basis for team success. Their meeting should consist of questions related to delegation strategies and defining when it is and is not appropriate to delegate. In what ways do their peers notice the effect of delegation on the level of success for the team? They should also discuss how their peers built their confidence in delegation to a level where they are able to contribute to the team’s success and help them reach their career goals. Î Self-Directed Learning: Assign your coaching target to come back to your next coaching session with areas of their work listed where they could delegate to others to contribute to the success of the team and helping the individual reach their goals. They should note any strategies they plan to take to implement delegation in these areas, as well as the anticipated outcome. Help them to create a strategy to handle push-back appropriately as someone that wishes to reach a leadership role.
Supplemental Coaching Strategies:
Î Non-Verbal Coaching: As the individual becomes more comfortable with delegation and you are noticing success in the team as a result, leave the individual a hand-written note at their workstation sharing your observations with them. Be specific in sharing the actions taken by the individual and why their efforts are contributing to the team’s success and helping them reach their personal goals.
