Green Light: Let’s Get Going

1. Coaching up is not about providing opinion or judgment, rather giving visibility to issues where upper-level management may not be aware. Hearing that, what do you feel comfortable doing and where do you feel like you need opportunities to improve to communicate that information? 2. When it comes to knowing what to say and do, how would you describe your knowledge level of coaching up, specific to creating a comfort level for you and the person you’re approaching?

Yellow Light: Needs Attention

1. The main issue you need to communicate to upper-management needs to be done so in a very quick time frame, and how are you going to position yourself to do that comfortably? 2. What part of the conversation makes you uncomfortable, and what do you think we can do together to get to a point of greater comfort?

Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention

1. You have valuable information that upper management could use, and with the time frame we have left, what are you going to do to accelerate your efforts to approach management comfortably and thoughtfully? 2. What part of the approach makes you hesitant, and what would make you more comfortable within the time frame we have left?
