Green Light: Let’s Get Going

1. When you think of conflict, what is the first word that comes to your mind and what do you think you need to do to address that? 2. When it comes to understanding how to have conversations of conflict, how would you rate your knowledge level and skill level on a scale of one to six (six is I’m very comfortable having conversations that involve conflict and they don’t intimidate me at all, and 1 is I’m not comfortable at all in addressing conflict in conversations)? After they answer, ask them what can we do to bring you toward a 6? 3. What can we do to facilitate greater comfort with conflict and what would you like me to do to assist you?

Yellow Light: Needs Attention

1. Conflict built up over time can become unhealthy and lead to really difficult situations, so let’s assume we need to have these conversations immediately… What can you do to properly prepare yourself for conversations of conflict? 2. What can I do to assist you in a short time period? 3. What are two things you feel will make you more comfortable to address conflict more readily?

Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention

1. Knowing that conflict can impact our ability to progress, and progress is always being measured, what can you do and are willing to do to accelerate your willingness to have conversations of conflict? 2. If you had to accelerate your progress and improve within your job starting tomorrow, knowing that we’ve been at this for a while, what would you specifically do to facilitate more proactive conversations when there is conflict?
