Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. Teach me two scenarios from your past where you achieved success due to you embracing change. 2. What are two things you specifically do to embrace change and let’s put those up on the whiteboard as a gentle reminder for both of us.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Reflective activity — ask the person to write two things they honestly feel when change is implemented and how they will overcome it. The key is to give them quiet time to complete the activity. Time does a wonderful thing to help people maintain focus and honesty with themselves. 2. Ask the person you are coaching to make a list of projects or tasks they have coming up that require some element of change, have them itemize the change, and then the actions they’re going to take to embrace the change. This could also be done with reflection time.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Ask the person you’re coaching the following statement — knowing we need to embrace change quickly due to the volume of work, itemize for me the specific things you need to do on a piece of paper or on a whiteboard to embrace those changes, and what you need from me to maintain consistency in terms of embracing the change.
