Green Light: Let’s Get Going

1. Start off with a question and ask them to write down answers to the following: What is the ideal workplace relationship and what does it mean to you? 2. What strengths do you exhibit specific to our definition? 3. What’s an area of improvement you’d like to explore as it relates to workplace relationships? 4. Write those things down on a whiteboard for future coaching sessions.

Yellow Light: Needs Attention

1. Assuming coaching has commenced for some time, ask the person(s) you’re coaching to itemize where they are exhibiting strengths and where there are still gaps of performance or actions specific to the ideal workplace relationship. This activity can be combined with reflective coaching, giving them time to not only answer within the session or between sessions, and ultimately using time to derive self-awareness and honesty.

Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention

1. Lack of progress specific to workplace relationships could occur for a variety of reasons. Perhaps someone’s lack of commitment or lack of skill or knowledge in terms of maybe having tough conversations or a variety of other areas. 2. Make sure you’ve identified the proper understanding and then facilitate an activity with the person(s) you’re coaching, and ask them to write down on paper or whiteboard what gaps exist, and what actions they are going to take to improve. Then next to those actions, have them write the benefits to them personally if they made those changes immediately.
