Time Management

Green Light: Let’s Get Going

1. At the foundation of time management is typically prioritization. Ask the person(s) being coached to list their top ten priorities. 2. After they list their top ten priorities, have them itemize the top four and in which order they would complete those activities. 3. This gives you insight to their critical thinking and application of time management based on prioritization. 4. After the prioritization activity, ask them to teach you how they go about scheduling such things. This will give you insight to their time management system.

Yellow Light: Needs Attention

1. Typically, time management or lack thereof is often a result of a lack of discipline. Managing distractions, etc. 2. Knowing that time management can be impacted by a variety of factors, ask the person(s) being coached to list two things they feel detract from their ability to execute concise time management practices.

Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention

1. Challenge our people with words related to time cadences such as ‘immediately’ or ‘within the next two weeks.’ If someone is lacking the application of time management practice in a disciplined and thoughtful way, ask them through the element of reflection to itemize two things they’re going to start doing immediately to raise their time management application. 2. Ask them to come back a few days later to share what those practices will be and what they will look like.
