Lack of Teamwork/Team Cohesion
Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. When coaching to teamwork, we suggest having a definition of a great team and what that means to everybody on the team such as the following: A great team is… (fill in the blank) who does what...(list the attributes and actions.) Once you have agreement, now you have a foundation to coach toward. 2. After the definition has been established, ask what are the two or three actions each person is going to take to support the definition of the team.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Assuming there is a definition of a team and a person(s) is lacking the support by their actions of the team, have them complete their own SOAR analysis. SOAR stands for Strengths, Opportunities, Actions, and Responsibility. Have them list out what they’re doing in terms of their strengths, where they have opportunity to improve, the actions they are going to take, and the responsibility they’re going to demonstrate to communicate their progress.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Knowing that teamwork is always being measured in terms of progress, what can you do and are willing to do to accelerate in those areas starting tomorrow morning? Have them write out the responses on paper or whiteboard. 2. If you had to accelerate your ability to support the team and improve within your job starting tomorrow, knowing that we’ve been at this for a while, what would you specifically do to facilitate that? Have them create a list that is visible.
