Decision Making: Ineffective
Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. Another whiteboard activity is to create three columns as it relates to decision making. The first column asks a question to write down the responses to the following: What makes a great decision and how does somebody go about doing that — list their responses in column 1. 2. In column 2, ask them to write where they have strengths and areas of opportunity to improve based on what was depicted in column 1. 3. After column 2 is completed, go to column 3 and ask them to list three things that need to occur for column 2 to improve specific to where they can improve.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Create case studies on a weekly or biweekly basis and send this to an employee, somebody working with decision making, and ask them to review the case study and come in with specific things they would do related to making a decision. 2. This activity will lead to a greater understanding of why the decision making has been ineffective. It could be a lack of planning or hesitation or nervousness of making a mistake along with a variety of other reasons.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Knowing that decision making is always being measured in terms of progress, what can you do and are willing to do to accelerate in those areas starting tomorrow morning? Write down your responses on paper or a whiteboard. 2. If you had to accelerate your ability to make decisions and improve within your job starting tomorrow, knowing that we’ve been at this for a while, what would you specifically do to facilitate that? Write down the steps on the same paper/whiteboard.
