Engagement
Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. Have the person(s) you’re coaching write down the definition of engagement: the active involvement and enthusiasm of team members in their tasks and work environment. 2. Next week come in and share two examples of where you demonstrated great engagement with the team or project, and the success you experienced because of it. Compare that to the definition written. 3. Next week come in and share 1 example of where your engagement didn’t quite hit the mark, compared to the definition, and what steps you’re going to take to improve that engagement.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Knowing we need to improve our overall engagement in the team (or project), next week come back with two specific examples of where you demonstrated great engagement, and the success you experienced because of it. Compare those to the definition we wrote down earlier. 2. Knowing that we need to up our game on engaging with our teammates (or project), come in next week and share 1 specific example of where you missed the mark a bit on your engagement, compared to the definition. 3. What specific steps are you going to take moving forward to increase your engagement with the team and/or the project? Write them down. 4. Write down any barriers that are keeping you from engaging more, and brainstorm ways to help remove or mitigate those barriers.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Knowing we need to improve our engagement with the team (or project) in a really short time period, come in tomorrow with two specific examples where you demonstrated great active engagement with the team in a thoughtful and professional way, and what success you experienced because of it. 2. Bring in 1 specific example where you missed the mark on active engagement, and what specific actions you’re going to take in the immediate future to increase your active engagement in a positive way with the team (or project). 3. Identify what barriers are currently keeping you from actively and positively engaging with the team, and how can we help you remove those barriers? Write them down.
