Green Light: Let’s Get Going

1. Next week come in and share two examples of where you received and accepted feedback in a thoughtful and professional way, and the success you experienced because of it. 2. Next week come in and share 1 example of where you received feedback that was more difficult or less easy to accept, and how you responded. Write down what steps you’re going to take to assimilate that feedback effectively and positively.

Yellow Light: Needs Attention

1. Knowing we need to improve our ability to receive and accept feedback, next week come back with two specific examples of where you received and accepted feedback in a positive way, and the success you experienced because of it. 2. Knowing that we need to up our game on accepting feedback positively, come in next week and share 1 specific example of where struggled with a piece of feedback or had a hard time accepting feedback, and write down what specific steps you’re going to take moving forward to increase your willingness to positively embrace feedback. 3. Write down any barriers that are keeping you from receiving and accepting feedback positively, and brainstorm ways to help remove or mitigate those barriers.

Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention

1. Knowing we need to improve our ability to receive and accept feedback in a really short time period, come in tomorrow with two specific examples where you received and accepted feedback in a thoughtful and professional way, and what success you experienced because of it. 2. Approach one peer every day over the next week and proactively ask for feedback in an area they think you could use more focus. Write down their suggestions, and don’t respond or become defensive to their feedback. The only response you can say is “Thank you.” Then return to our next coaching session with what specific actions you’re going to take in the immediate future to address those suggestions in a positive way. (This will help the person(s) being coached practice receiving feedback to focus on positive action steps.) 3. Identify what barriers are currently keeping you from positively receiving and accepting feedback, and how can we help you remove those barriers? Write them down.
