New Manager Now Supervising Former Peers
Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. Write down a list of words/traits that you feel describe a great leader and effective manager. 2. Next week come in with 2 examples of where you demonstrated one or more of those words in an effective way, and the success you experienced because of it. 3. Next week come in and share 1 example of where you honestly feel you have an opportunity to improve one of the words/traits on that list. Write down specific actions you can take moving forward to improve on that trait/skill set.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Knowing we need to reengineer the relationship you have with your team (former peers) in a relatively quick time frame, come in next week with 2 strengths you demonstrated recently of a great leader and effective manager (refer to the original list we created), and what successes you experienced because of those. 2. Knowing we have a relatively short time period to reengineer the relationship you have with your team (former peers), come in next week with 1 area you honestly feel you’re struggling with, and you could improve relatively quickly, and what steps you’re going to take to achieve that.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Knowing we need to better reengineer the relationship you have with your team (former peers) in a really short time period, and we’ve already been trying to work on this for some time, come in tomorrow with two specific examples where you demonstrated the traits of a great leader and effective manager, and what success you experienced because of those. 2. Bring in 1 example where you honestly struggled as an effective leader and have an opportunity to improve, and what specific actions you’re going to take in the immediate future to improve. 3. What barriers are currently keeping you from reengineering your relationship with your team in a quick manner, and how can we help you remove or address those barriers?
