New Leader Avoiding Conflict
Green Light: Let’s Get Going
1. Write the definition of empathy and write the traits you feel one with high empathy should have (or you would like them to have) while being effective in the workplace. Highlight the areas you feel match up with your own strengths. 2. Next week come in with 2 examples of where you were showed high empathy, and the success you experienced because of it. 3. Next week come in and share 1 example of where you have an opportunity to increase your empathy. Write down specific actions you can take moving forward to improve on that area.
Yellow Light: Needs Attention
1. Knowing we need to improve our willingness to address conflict in a relatively quick time frame, come in next week with 2 strengths you demonstrated recently of an effective manager (refer to the original list we created) to approach and address a conflict, and what successes you experienced because of those. 2. Knowing we have a relatively short time period to improve our willingness to address conflict, come in next week with 1 area you feel you have an opportunity to improve when it comes to being more comfortable with addressing and managing conflict, and you could place more focus on relatively quickly, and what steps you’re going to take to achieve that.
Red Light: Needs Immediate Attention
1. Knowing we need to improve our willingness to address and manage conflict more effectively in a really short time period, and understanding we’ve already been trying to work on this for some time, come in tomorrow with two specific examples where you effectively addressed and managed a conflict, and what success you experienced because of those. 2. Bring in 1 example where you honestly struggled as an effective leader to approach and manage a conflict, and have an opportunity to improve, and what specific actions you’re going to take in the immediate future to address. 3. What barriers are currently keeping you from becoming more comfortable facing conflict in a quick manner, and how can we help you address those barriers?
