Coachability

Suggestions to Start

1. Seek feedback from peers and simply listen without responding (the only response you can have is, “thank you.) It’s called a listening chat. Have everybody do that once a week for 12 weeks, with every 4 weeks each person providing a summation of what they learned and what they’re committed to as a result of the feedback. This activity needs to be carefully presented with everyone being encouraged to be thoughtful and professional with one another.

More Aggressive Suggestions

1. Find a mentor for the person(s) being coached who might be struggling with coachability. Set up the relationship with the mentor providing specific observations of where people demonstrated resistance at the expense of coachability. 2. Find a video on active listening (YouTube, etc.) and have the person(s) being coached watch the video and then summarize that they learned in terms of how the lesson can actually lead to greater coachability.
