Conflict

Suggestions to Start

1. Ask the person(s) being coached to read Crucial Conversations, one chapter every week and e-mail you two things they learned from the chapter and one action they took as a result of the chapter. 2. Set up specific scenarios where people practice conversations of conflict and set up a peer-to-peer coaching network where people practice and only provide positive feedback in terms of what people did in terms of their effort and the actual dialogue they had. The concept is to help people feel good about getting better, which is rarely the case with something like conflict.

More Aggressive Suggestions

1. If somebody is struggling with conflict because they’re interruptive and disruptive, pair them up with a mentor of somebody who can advise and guide them, as well as practice with them. 2. Find a video in conflict (YouTube, etc.) and have them watch and itemize two things they’re going to put into action as a result from observing the video. 3. Provide journal-based coaching as a tool for the person(s) being coached specific to the conversations they’ve had on a weekly basis where they demonstrated thoughtful and professional conduct, where otherwise historically they may have been struggling as it relates to conflict.
