Emotional Intelligence
Suggestions to Start
1. Share the definitions of the five major tenets of emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self regulation, empathy, motivation, and social skills.) After sharing the definitions found on Google, ask each person to rank their strengths to their weaknesses in the order they would rank them specific to the areas of emotional intelligence. 2. After the ranking activity, ask each person what they’re going to do specifically to support their strengths, and itemize 2 actions they’re going to do to raise their lower ranked areas.
More Aggressive Suggestions
1. If someone is struggling with self-awareness and self regulation specifically, assign them a mentor as well as a peer-to-peer coach who they can discuss and practice with. The mentor will serve the role of advising and continually supporting the application of self-awareness and self regulation. 2. A great assessment is by Multi Health Systems in Canada that measures emotional intelligence and provides great insight and accuracy in their assessments emotional intelligence.
